HSA Eps 13
I opened her door and peeped through. She was laying on the bed, facing the other side. I walked in and sat on the bed gently, so as not to disturb her. She had been crying. Her face was tear-stained and swollen. I wiped off the tears from her face, and her eyelids slid open. She looked at me for a long time without saying a word. I felt a lot of things looking at the lost look on her face; anger, love, care.
"I called your mum. I told her you came over to my house for a group study." At the mention of her mum, she sprang up from the bed, and I held her back down.
"It's fine. She was fine with it." I said. She still didn't say a word. She wriggled her hands from mine and left the room. I did not understand this new attitude of hers. She didn't say a word to me throughout. She had just sat there looking at me, like there were a thousand things on her mind. I went after her and saw her talking to Bill. She was smiling, even laughing. I frowned and took long strides to where she was. I took her by the hand and dragged her away from Bill. She kept struggling against my hold, telling me to let her go, but my ears were deaf to her pleas. I dragged her into her room, jammed the door close and pushed her against it, trapping her with my body.
"What the fuck was that?" I asked, yelling at her.
"I should be asking you that question." She yelled back, her face, a mask of pure anger.
"You can't just treat me like I don't fucking exist. You can't give me the silent treatment and go about laughing and talking to friends." I said, still yelling. I didn't care about my friends hearing anything, since all the rooms were soundproof.
"And who the hell do you think you are to tell me what to do?"
"I..." I was going to reply her, but I stopped when I saw the tears streaming down her face.
"Angel." I said, and cupped her face with my hands.
"You get to ignore me but I don't? You didn't say a word to me in the car either, so why should I talk to you?" She yelled at me, still crying and hit me hard in the chest. I jerked backwards but she continued hitting me. I grabbed her hands and pulled her to me, hugging her tight. She sobbed hard against my chest and I suddenly felt ridden with guilt.
"I'm sorry. I was not in my right mind then." I said.
She sniffed and pulled herself away from my hold. She nodded, cleaned her eyes and opened the door. I closed it again, this time with my palm. She turned and looked at me in confusion.
"Stay." My heart was thumping wildly.
"I can't. My mum will be worried about me." She said.
"Then, we will call to tell her you are spending the night." I was expecting another excuse or a no. Instead, she gave me a funny look, then nodded. I jumped and fist bumped the air, a wide smile playing on my face. She smiled too and let her long hair fall to cover it up. I led her to the bed and sat her down. So she wouldn't get funny ideas, I sat on the chair.
"Thanks." I said and slid out of the car, walking as far as my legs could carry me into the school. It was exactly one month ago, that Justus and I had exchanged words, sort of. That night, we had talked a lot. He told me about his family, most especially his sisters. He had shared a lot about himself; his best memories, things he had done with his family and friends. We had even talked about Melissa and that had made me hate her a little less. I only said little that night. I meant, what could I have said? I can not compare my boring childhood to his amazing one. And well since that night, he made it his duty to take me along with his friends to school. He waited in front of my fifth class, and made me sit with them at lunch. He took me home everyday. I should be grateful, right? Yeah, but I'm scared. The day Melissa harassed me in school cannot but be replayed in my mind anytime I am with Justus. And anytime she looks at me, it gives me the creeps.
I took my books from my locker and hurried off to my first class; Physics. Mr Gregory, my Physics teacher has this rule about lateness to class, and I hated dealing with him.
"So, we are going to have a quick test. Julian, please pass this round." Mr. Gregory gave him the test papers.
I scanned the test paper and finished within a few minutes.
